Notification to: CHSER Certificate Holder We would like to share current information with you regarding some positive changes to The Assisted Living Management Certificate Program offered through The Center for Health Services Education and Research (CHSER). The Assisted Living Management Certificate Program and the Certified Assisted Living Manager (C.A.L.M.) designation, were developed by Dr. Beth Knox and Dr. Marian Upchurch approximately fifteen years ago. Since its inception, the Program has provided an opportunity for individuals to obtain not only basic knowledge in assisted living management but also to exceed any minimum requirements by obtaining a credible and valid certification in assisted living management. A credible certification program typically has the following characteristics:
The certificate program that you completed through CHSER meets these criteria. In addition, you received an authentic, individually numbered certificate which is a professional credential developed by CHSER. You can be justifiably proud of your C.A.L.M. designation and number. However, during the past several months, we have become increasingly concerned about web-based and other communications from some assisted living education providers. Specifically, these communications include offering the Certified Assisted Living Manager (C.A.L.M.™ ) designation at the completion of a 24-hour basic course and actively encouraging the completion of only the minimum 24-hour training course required by the State of Texas. We have resolved this unacceptable situation by redesigning the certificate and changing the designation from C.A.L.M.™ to C.A.L.A.. This change replaces “Manager” with “Administrator” and reflects current national terminology including the language of the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). This change will also be protected through a copyright and trademark. In addition, “Certified Assisted Living Administrator” has been added to the certificate. click here for image of certificate We have developed several options to facilitate this transition. Regardless of the option you select, your original certificate number will not change.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. Once again, please accept our sincere congratulations for your achievement and professionalism. Sincerely,
CHSER |
